Talenti Gelato Begian Milk Chocolate Review Taste Test
Talenti Gelato Belgian Milk Chocolate
Taste Test

My children and I were asked to "taste-test" Talenti Gelato. We were not about to turn down that offer.

Since my children were involved, I chose a flavor that all of us would potentially enjoy, which is the Belgian Milk Chocolate Gelato.

As I may have shared previously, we now live on acreage in the mountains, so most late afternoons or early evenings we go out on our front deck and enjoy the spectacular views and sounds. We often eat dinner or dessert while enjoying the company of one another.

Thus, it came as no surprise that I pulled out a dessert, but the children's taste buds were not prepared for the delectable creamy perfection that was about to meet their tongue. Out of four of us taste-testing, every one of us agreed it was a bit of heaven on earth.

Have you ever tried this? Okay, so to be fair, it was not enough to make everybody as happy as they desired, because they could not each have a bowl full up of this goodness. Now I have kids begging me to go to the store and buy them each their own container. Thanks Talenti!!!

Chef Bretto and I both agreed that we normally do not care for the taste of "chocolate" ice cream that one can purchase at the store. Yet, we were both in unison that Talenti Belgian Milk Chocolate Gelato was deliciozo. If all chocolate ice cream tasted like this, we would love it, but alas it does not, so this will definitely be our "go to" chocolate frozen confection. I have every reason to believe you will be as pleased as Punchinello if you give this a try!

Ghirardelli Magic Shell Ice Cream Topping Italian-American Style
Ghirardelli Magic Shell Gelato or Ice Cream Topping Recipe
Italian-American Style
I have probably mentioned more than once that I am a messy cook and my kitchen often reflects my inability to cook neatly. My kitchen is never spotless like Giada's or Alton's. However, I have redemption. I just read that creative people tend to be more "messy" or "cluttered."

Last night I went into the kitchen to scoop up some ice cream for the kids, as the night before we all test-tasted some gelato, but the container did not hold enough to satisfy all of us. I started pulling out toppings. Their favorite is chocolate magic shell.  And then my mind started racing. I recalled reading one time that Magic Shell gets its "magic" from coconut oil. Oh what a coincidence I have some of that on hand. And corn syrup to thin it out...and while it would not be my preferred type of Ghirardelli chocolate, I had their milk and semi-sweet chocolate chips on hand. And we know a good cook never lets the lack of the "preferred" ingredient on hand, keep them out of their culinary studio! It's all about innovation.

Now since it is October, Italian-American Heritage Month, my mind keeps recreating everything to be Italianofied. Is that even a word? No matter, it is now! So what better way to eat magic shell than to make it from Italian-American chocolate. Have you ever tasted Ghirardelli's chocolate? Oh my goodness, it is so delizioso. It is my go to chocolate for creating desserts.

Long story cut short, my kids loved the homemade version better than the store bought version. The Ghirardelli chocolate simply has superior flavor. I did not figure out the costs in comparison, something I hope to do in the future, but the flavor was splendido! :)

Ghirardelli Magic Shell Recipe
(Italian-Amercian Style)

Ingredients:

12 oz Ghirardelli Chocolate (or whatever chocolate is your preference)
1 cup of Coconut Oil (one that is refined so their is no coconut flavor such as LouAna's)
1/2 -3/4 cup Corn Syrup

Directions:

Combine all ingredients either in the top of a double boiler or in a bowl (if you are going to microwave it). You can also put a glass bowl over a pan of water that was brought to a simmer and then turn off the heat. Stir and melt the mixture over the hot water or heat in the microwave on 50% power at 15 second intervals, stirring thoroughly between each 15 seconds.

Once it is melted let it cool to room temp before putting on top of ice cream. I placed mine in a mason type jar. If your Ghirardelli magic shell is too hard on top of the ice cream you can thin it with a little more corn syrup.
